Bill summary

3D Printed Gun Safety Act of 2025 This bill makes it unlawful to intentionally publish digital instructions that can automatically program a three-dimensional printer or similar device to produce or complete a firearm from an unfinished frame or receiver.

Now vs if chaptered

Now: no federal 922(aa) CAD-distribution ban. If chaptered: new internet-distribution crime for 3-D-print firearm code. Confirm enactment before advising.

Defender utility

Federal defenders and CA/NJ/WA PDs on CAD/STL calendars: this is not present federal law. Do not treat posting a print file as a 922(aa) crime until enacted. If it chapters, intent + internet distribution of auto-programming CAD is the element set; analogue to NJ A 1399 (chaptered) and CA AB 1263 CAD-aiding. Not a possessory PMF count by itself.

Who this is for. Federal defenders and CA/NJ PDs on CAD/3-D-print-file calendars — pending 922(aa), not present law; not a California charge.
